An easy show to judge... NO DAHLIAS. Vases
all filled with water and awaiting the arrival of the exhibitors
Let us start with a few views of the overall display,
this was a poor year and all the exhibitors struggled to gather
sufficient dahlias to stage an entry The main hall 1,
2 and 3
As you can see there are a few gaps here and there where entries
should been staged but on the whole the show turn out much better
than was expected.
Here is a few views from the
previous
year. This photo was taken from the left and right sides
of the balcony and shows the main hall. The lesser hall
houses a number of dahlia exhibits including the Inter-Society
Chrysanthemum classes.

The
Individual Dahlia Championship Class.
The individual Dahlia Championship
was won by Geoff Gardener using Kenora Challenger, Charlie Two,
Eastwood Moonlight, Primrose Diane and Deborah's Kiwi.
The Medium Flowered Dahlia Championship
six vases of medium flowered was won by Andrew Allan Jnr. Andrew
used Golden Symbol, Ruskin Charlotte, two vases of Pink Pastelle
and two vases of Barbara's Pastelle.
The California Trophy one vase
of medium dahlias, one vase of small cactus dahlias and one vase
of small decorative dahlias was won by Frank Fraser using Eastwood
Moonlight, Kiwi Gloria and Ruskin Diane.
Andrew Allan was back on form winning the Sandy
Brown Trophy for the third time. Andrew used Eileen Denny,
Paul Chester and Peach Cupid.
The W. McFarlane Trophy for six
giant decoratives dahlias went to Ian Hill with Mark Hardwick,
Fairway Spur, Alva's Supreme and Wanda's Cappela (3)
The Challenge Trophy for six
giant cactus/semi-cactus dahlias went to John Clark who used four
Daleko Jupiter, Rose Jupiter and Pink Jupiter.
The Glasgow Herald Trophy for
two vases of large dahlias was won by Ian Thorburn with Salmon
Keene and Kenora Challenger. The vase of Kenora Challenger went
on to win the Gold Medal for Best Vase in Show. In the background
of the photo you can see the Class for Baskets for Effect.
The Strathmar Trophy for two vases of medium decorative dahlias
was won by Geoff Gardener.
The Caledonian Peat Products Trophy for three vases of medium
flowered dahlias went to Eric Wilson, Eric used Eastwood Moonlight,
Grenidor Pastelle and Laurens Moonlight.
The Tom Robbie Trophy for three vases of small
decorative dahlias was won by that man Geoff Gardener who was
having a great day. Geoff used Ruskin Diane, Gateshead Festival
and Primrose Diane in his winning exhibit.
The Robert McConnel Trophy for
3 x 5 miniature dahlias was won by Frank Newbery using Karenglen,
Lemon Zing and L.A.T.E. Andrew Allan Jnr. was second using Peach
Cupid, Candy Cupid and Hamari Rose.
The Zanini Trophy for three vases of pompon dahlias was won by
Frank Newbery using Moorplace Gurtula Twilight and Willo's Violet.
The Sir John Reid Trophy for
three vases of small dahlias was won by Frank Fraser using Kiwi
Gloria, Deborah's Kiwi and Trelyn's Kiwi. Andrew
Allan Jnr. was second using Norbeck Dusky, Paul and Linda's
Chester.
A few more images which escaped, Best Vase of pompon, a giant bloom and three giants blooms. Six varieties of Medium flowered. One
or two pictures of chrysanthemums firstly a three by three entry and then the entries
of Paul Barlow,
Jack Kevan
and Ronnie
Bradford and to round it off the Best Vase of chrysanthemums in Show, grown
and staged by Paul Barlow from Aberdeen.
After
the show the dahlia flowers are sold off to the public.
