Andrew Allan Jnr...a potted history

Born Dalry Ayrshire 1946 left school 1961 to help dad in Market Garden.  Started commercial egg production in 1964 but had to give it up in 1975 due to health problems.  Joined National Telephone Company in 1975, worked as a Technical Officer in Glasgow Tandem Switching Centre before transferring to Government Radio Service.  Nicknamed "The Voice of Scotland" - the radio signals from the Thunderbird aerial/antenna shown below were heard all around the world day and night.

The Allan clan, mum and dad, mum and dad 1 - dad 2 - dad 3.

Gave up full time employment in 1986 to look after dad.  Dad introduced me to dahlia growing, he was a keen grower in the 1950's.  I started off with about 100 plants and now grow 400.  All the plants are raised from cuttings in a controlled environment growing room specially constructed for the purpose. Temperature of the bench is kept at 70F, air at 62 and humidity at 60%.  The 14 hour daylength is provided by two 400 watt Mercury lamps, they radiate enough heat to keep the room at the required temperature without any additional heat.
Sunshine Publishing was set up during 1989 to provide free print services to small business in the local community.
